Spent the day retrofitting some windows in the house. The window weight pockets had no insulation and there was a wicked draft in the dining room and the living room. Thankfully, Tom Silva from This Old House and I are close friends: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/0,,20057396,00.html
Went this morning to Lowe’s and bought the stuff. Psyched about the R13 on this puppy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-value_(insulation)#Typical_per-inch_R-values_for_material
Here are the girls psyched about the upcoming project. In truth, it meant (with Kristyle working) a lot of playing wii so it kind of worked out for them.
This stuff isn’t cheap, it’s $45 for one of these sheets. For four windows, I used about half of it. Saving the extra for other little cold pockets I find down the road.
My before picture came out bad so you’ll have to imagine a space with a box in between the two windows and that the box had NO insulation. When I opened it up, I could actually see outdoors in spots. No wonder the draft was so bad.
Sprayed some of that icky gets all over everything yellow foam into the cracks and holes, covered it with my foam panels, and then taped it with metal foil tape.
Reinstalled the window panels, fed Mallory a few times, and called it a day. x4 (both windows and Mallory).
Feels much better now. Thinking about doing some inside trim work next but may wait for the big IRS check to arrive.
Anyways, hope this post finds you well. Sorry it wasn’t the kids.
